A Collector of Railroad Photos Uses Them to Track the Past

The photographer and historian Jeff Brouws has spent hours sifting 
through bins of old photos for sale, looking for signs of American 
railroads in the backgrounds.  Tiny segments of track or steam plumes 
will suffice, as will train wrecks, bridge trestles or portraits of 
baggage handlers or locomotive cleaning crews
