Re: (erielack) Steamtown Images--June 11, 2013 (C2826 thru C2830)

The details on C2826-C2828 need some correction.

This is the same bridge seen in C2824-C2825, and it's crossing the Rochester
& Syracuse interurban line, as evidenced by the light rail, the overhead
wire, and the small station/shelter visible under the bridge on the left in
C2828.

The NYC overpass was a plate girder type for all three segments (per 1956
aerial photos) and NYC line is on a curve as it passes under. Zooming in on
C2826 shows freight cars in the distance on the NYC bypass line which is
today's CSX mainline along that end of the lake; the actual bridge over the
NYC would be out of view to the right, at the southeast corner of Onondaga
Lake.

About the only unusual thing here is the structure has the appearance of
having been raised or perhaps replaced recently at the time of the photos,
given the concrete abutments versus sections of stonework and the huge,
heavy duty nature of the bridge itself. Usually it was the interurban who
had to cross the railroad, but apparently that wasn't practical here.

As before, to take most of these photos today would require standing in the
lanes of I-690. Anyone who wants to can use Google Maps street view to
compare by locating yourself roughly at I-690 exit 7 from the westbound side
(offramp only here); some temporary chain link fence sections block the end
of where this line was located in those views, which are about the only
reference point.

And where I am sitting right now is out of view to the left, across the
lake, in C2826, as well.
