Re: (erielack) Steamtown Images--June 10, 2013 (C2821 thru C2825)



Hopefully there are more images of the Salt Land coming, I'd like to see 
where it crossed the NYC freight bypass mainline.

C2824-C2825 are taken from what now would most likely be the westbound lanes 
of I690 and looking more or less directly west.   About all that you'd 
recognize is the roofline of Crucible Steel.  The waste bed at left is now 
built to the height of the railroad ROW, and the ramp and bridge were 
removed in the late 1950s to make way for the first part of I690 (1956 
aerials show the beginnings of construction for this).  I actually had 
thought this was a grade crossing; some topos show a spur up almost to State 
Fair Blvd. so perhaps it was leveled out to use as a storage track.

To replace this line, the connecting ramp and curve that NYS&W uses today 
was built.
