Re: (erielack) More on the Erie/EL into CUT
Damn, Harry Felber...... I wondered what happened to him. After I was
furloughed at Brier Hill in 1960, RFE Walter Coleman called Mr. Felber and got
me placed at Cleveland. If all RFEs were like Mr. Felber and Walter Coleman, I'd
never have left the Company but with Sammy Miller in charge, it was like World
War 3 and I lucked out getting on with the old Auto-Train in Florida. I later
worked for Al Scala (another ex-EL man) at Union Station in D. C.

The recent string about Erie/EL operation into CUT got me to fwd it to Ben
Anthony with a question about his experience at CUT with the following result
which you may found of interest.

Note below about the Erie connection to the CUT. I don't recall your
dates for working at CT Tower. Can you add some more to this thread about the
Erie's access to CUT?
Thanks

Mike: My failing memory forces me to dig out the CUT intlkg. diagr.,
S-J2310T-I, 3/10/64. As a leverman I worked the EE levers at "CT" during the
summer of 1953. Lever No. 1 (of 575 levers) was the "CT" traffic lever for the
Erie Conn. The Erie op. at "WE" and the CUT train director coordinated all
moves on the connection. As a leverman I pulled levers per the train
director's general instructions. 12 seperate levers controlled switches and
signals at the ErieRR/CUT conn. at E. 34 St.
As a side note Erie RR engineman, Tony San Fillipo, was the only
train/engine service employee to visit the tower to make our acquaintance.. He
established a mutual friendship/respect among us such that we favored Tony's
moves
even if it meant delayiing an NYC move. After Tony would cut-off from No.
623 and during his light engine move back to the 55th St. E.H, he always
gave us a toot as he passed the tower. The train director would respond with a
highball given by flashlight.
The aforementioned was a bittersweet experience. Immediately prior to
working for the CUT, Dr Houck had disqualified me from Ere RR engine
service and given me 6 mos. to live. TM/RFE Harry Felber could not have been
nicer or more compassionate in having to terminate me. 9 years later In
1962 I met him at Marion while on the EL GE demos. He remembered and greeted
me cordially, saying: "I knew you would do OK!"
The foregoing describes my activities during the summer of 1953. Ben
