Thanks Scott,
We believed it might have been painted on via a stencil, as we couldn't 
detect any kind of any 'applied' stick-on type letter or decal. (not sure 
sign decals like this were prevalent back in the late'60's/early '70's, but 
we don't know for sure...)

Thanks for your thoughts on this...
