To add to the previous reply: There was double track up from Binghamton
through Hillcrest, and the bridge over Route 7 (now replaced with I-88) was
double track. But there was a switch to single track over the river, which
was located quite close to the end of the river bridge. I'd say the end of
the double track was right about where Niles Road is aligned either side of
the ROW. I was never sure whether Niles Road ever was connected under the
tracks or not. No evidence I remember to suggest there had been a bridge
there.
My folks house is the one with the black roof (used to be gray) at the right
hand end of the graphic scale at the bottom of the attached image. The
school to the right is Chenango Valley Jr-Sr High School, my dear old alma
mater . . . 8^). Yeah, yeah, TMI.
