Re:(erielack) BCW Kit #812 - Erie Buffet-Coach "Valiant"

Tony --

See The DIAMOND, vol. 22, #3, p22.

The car was built by Pullman in 1911 as a 26-chair parlor car and operated as such by Pullman on the New York Central. Pullman rebuilt it in 1932 with 10 parlor chairs and restaurant lounge facilities, meaning it probably replaced a full diner in lighter services during the depression. Pullman sold it to the Erie in 1943, before the Pullman breakup. Erie rebuilt it to a coach (52 seats) diner and numbered it 2990. It lost a vestibule in one of the rebuildings.

It rotated with buffet-coach cars 2998 and 2999 in Jersey City- Binghamton-Marion line trains.

Some time prior to 1948, it became a club (commuter?) car, only to be reconfigured as a parlor-diner in February, 1948. It became a camp car in September, 1951. It was almost certinly never G-G-Y.

It never had "solarium" windows in the parlor end: there was a vestibule there.

The number 812 must be BCW's internal kit number; it bears no relation to the Erie roster.

I would love to see more information on the operation of any of the "Everything Cars." They undoubtedly held down some of the Cleveland-Pittsburgh trains, as well as thre lrsser trains from Jersey City to and through the Southern Tier.

Consists, anyone?

Can anyone give me more information concerning the prototype for this kit. The kit has recently become available, but I'd not seen any announcements or comments on it. Information in the kit says "Valiant, Plan4019B was placed in service 13 July 1932, rebuilt from Electra Plan 2416; equipped with Ice AC 29 June 1934; sold to the Erie Railroad on 4 March 1943."

What trains would this car have been used on? How long was it on the roster? Would it ever have been painted in the 2T Green? Did it always have solarium windows on the parlor end or was that end later a solid end?

The number is lower than the numbers described in DeYoung's Erie equipment book.

Any information would be welcomed. It is available through the ELHS.
