Re: (erielack) Mainline passing sidings on the Susquehanna D STIRLING, NY

Several things come to mind, of which none or all may be significant.

A through freight could work the middle track at Sterling without
interfering with Suffern or Hillburn operations.
The middle track was long enough for a good size setout.
The longest track at Hillburn, track one, only holds about 34-35 regular
60 ' cars, thus the tracks at Hillburn were not conducive for big set outs
or pick ups with out having to double over.

No, it did not extend north from Hillburn, but was about a mile west from
the west end of Hillburn yard.

Bill Sheppard can probably add more to the whole scenario. Bill was a
train order used by the yard jobs to go up to Stirling, or were they with in
the same block?

Why was it
used to pick up and set off autoracks for nearby Mahwah? Did it extend
north
from Hillburn?
