Re:Re: Re:(erielack) Dearborn Station picture

Well . . . thanks, I think. But, as I said, this was a little sarcasm. I mean -- really! How many of you stood for hours watching nothing happen at an empty station? Did you take lots and lots of pictures?

That's exactly why I said this picture is interesting -- because not many people took pictures of the dull but vital side of railroading: the making of cars into trains. Thanks go to whoever took THIS picture, so you modellers would have some clue as to what really went on.

Yet, even so, there is great discussion as to what DID really go on.

In this instance, I find nothing in the picture or captions to indicate anything other than the existence of the EL. The cut of cars on the right may have come from a train, or it may simply be a bunch of cars coupled together for handling around the terminal.

looking at the cars, we see a PRR sleeper, an EL sleeper, the roof of what might be an ex-Erie diner or h/w coach, maybe another in front of that (one could be a coach-diner), maybe a Stillwell, then an express (baggage) car and a baggage-mail. Cars out of sight behind us? Dunno. Special train? Dunno. Extra section? Dunno.

With our attention free from the Grand Canyon's Fs or the Es of EL#6, we get to ask all these other questions.

Yes -- a very interesting picture of the dull side of railroading.
