(erielack) ELHS 2010 Annual Convention

As Paul Cappellonii indicated in the latest issue of Bulletin Orders (No. 94, Nov. 200() which was bound in V23N4 of The Diamond (and which BTW, I got here in Central OH last Saturday), we're working on putting together the Annual Meeting in Marion in September, 2010.

He noted if you'd like to help out, to contact me, but neglected to include my email address, which is rbehrendt_@_columbus.rr.com for anyone wishing to contact me about the event.

Marion was of course at the center of the Marion Division, which was made up of the Kent Subdivision (Kent to Marion), the Lima Sub. (Marion to Huntington) and the Chicago Sub. (Huntington to Hammond), and today continues to be a very active center of rail activity in central Ohio (with NS running 40-45 trains/day; CSX Indianapolis Line running 30-35 trains/day, and CSX's C&O Sub. running 20-25 trains/day).

Since the ELHS's last Annual in 2002, further work has been done on the Station, and our C&S crews have installed several different operating signals to work w/several different interlockings acquired over the years in the west room of the Station.

One thing that hasn't changed is restored AC Tower, which pretty much looks like it did when we acquired it from CR in '95 (although we did put a new coat of paint on it in '08). The model board and interlocking have been completely restored, and we can replicate what is otherwise going on trackside for those who have never been inside an Erie tower, and talk w/several of our members who are former EL towermen...

Although some major details are being worked out for the Annual, I could use some assistance on some particulars such as:
- - setting up and running modeling clinics (or alternatively, to oversee modeling display activities)
- - arrange for T-shirts.
- - assist in putting together member packets for attendees

Additionally, I could use one or two members to assist w/check-in on Friday afternoon. I'm sure there are other things that don't immediately come to mind, but if you'd like to help out, I'd like to hear from you...

It should be a fun event for everyone next September, and I'll keep you posted as further progress is made...
