Ron -- I'm fresh off the mess they made of the NY Harbor Map . . . As you point out the choice of date has much to determine about this -- and 1954 for "Anthracite Railroads" seems a bit late. It is a remarkable map to trace all the abandonements since then, asw well as the myriad of shortlines that have taken piecxes here and there. One can see that alot of work and thought went into creating the map, and under the circumstances you describe on the Buffalo map, even more excellent and remarkable. Those whose intimate knowledge of the region whose experience/nostalgia starts with Conrail will absolutely love the map -- and in that context it's really great. Except for inclusion of the O&W, it's really a "Whatever happened to mid-Atlantic Railroads other than Penn Central that went into Conrail?" map. But I still believe starting from the premise of Anthracite Railroads" is awfully misleading. [and I realize there's a fine group with an excellent magazine, of which I've been a member for more than 20 years that uses the name "Anthracite Railroads" but would more correctly be titled, "The Cement Belt Railway Historical Society." I guess I'm just another rivet-counting purist <vbg>] Cheers, Jim Guthrie ELHS #1296 The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
