(erielack) Barberton Derailment

Years ago, about 1982, I was in Iron Horse Hobbies in Concord, California. Don, the proprietor knew me well and knew my affliction with the EL. One day an much older, grey hair gent walked in and Don noted his presence with a, "well speaking of the Erie Lackawanna". Don introduced me to this gentlemen of which I can not remember his name. We got to talking about Barberton (my hometown) and we talked about this very subject only to find out he was on the head end of this train. He remember a few choice words, the hogger dumping the air, but the object he worried about the most was the huge fire extinguisher that broke loose from is mount and was bouncing around the cab.
The train was rounding Fairview curve. I never liked this crossing. If you were traveling east on Fairview Ave, you had to turn right onto the crossing and the view was not fair at all. Trees, bushes, and houses blocked the view of any approaching eastbound train, whether B&O, Pennsy, or EL. There was a clear view of any westbound trains. There may have been a 20mph limit through Barberton, but as soon as the rear cleared Wunderlich ave, the eastbounds would throttle up and go under Wooster Ave, hit the bend and Fairview crossing was next.
