Re: (erielack) Western PA - Brockway Coal

Gordon,

The reason I asked is because I recalled seeing a photo of a manifest
pulling onto the Old Main at Salateford Jct. with a block of coal hoppers.
Looking at the photo again, it is approx 16 Shawmut cars. I also remembered
I have a NY-98 consist from 8/75 with a headend block of MetEd coal: 13
Shawmut cars received at station Q, which I assume is Brockway, and 41
CO/BO/WM cars received at UK. So Chessie did interchange MEtEd coal to EL,
at least occasionally, but at Salamanca.

I can't say yes or no, but it would make sense that they would use the unit
train rate whenever possible. The Shawmut had a tariff that allowed two
mines to each load half of a unit train, but the halves would be combined at
or before they reached Brockway.
