Hi Jim... That is some interesting info about the Corning Glass Works. What time frame are we talking about? Was he talking about operations back in the 60s because he referred to the NYC? I've always thought that the NYC/PC had most (if not all) the business from the glass works, that is until Corning opened the plant in Erwin in the mid 70s that you can see from the Rt 15 overpass. And that's an interesting (really) short haul from Corning to Horseheads! - -pat moore - -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: James Crump <w1ewn_@_yahoo.com> > > I recently had a conversation with someone who worked for Corning Glass in Corning and he confrimed Corning was switched by NYC - and did receive raw materials in Covered hoppers. However, the CRT's blanks were made in corning and shipped by rail to westinghouse in Horseheads because the quanity was too great to go by truck. So the NYC moved the cars to the Erie interchange in corning; > then to Elmira Yad, and back on the drill. > > They did not receive any broken glass. > > Jim The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------ End of EL Mail List Digest V3 #3074 ***********************************
