This is obviously way OT, so this will be my last post on the subject. My original comment to you about being "PC" was tongue-in-cheek, although I do apologize if this wasn't evident. People can call themselves whatever they want, and I'm well aware that many Native Americans are perfectly happy with the term "Indian"; again, the issue here has nothing to do with taking offense. In the interest of avoiding confusion, I prefer the term "Native American", and use "Indian" to refer to people from India. Paul B From: "Schuyler Larrabee" <schuyler.larrabee_@_verizon.net> Subject: RE: (erielack) What shoulda been in erms of polical corrrectness Personally, Paul, I think it's pretty condescending to tell me and certainly to tell the American Indians what they should be calling themselves. The Indians I have met personally call themselves just that: Indians. Whoinell am I (or you) to tell them that they shouldn't be calling themselves that, or why should I be PC when they don't think this is important? I was pretty floored when they told me that they didn't much care about the Cleveland Indians, or the Washington Redskins, but it's their heritage, not mine, being referred to. If you want to get accurate,, well, I could say that I'm a French/Arab/English mongrel. Personally, I think I am an American. Plain 'n' simple. Perhaps especially simple.
