Paul B writes: >Actually, the larger portion of trucking, including private carriage and >independents, was not regulated by the ICC. And the highways were (and are) littered with lost opportunity costs of generations of independent operators and gypsy truckers as a result. It's difficult to compete against people bright enough to know their true costs <g>. But the history of the Moror Age has been about shuffling, transferring and hiding costs -- both for people who drive autos and truckers, and private enterprise, like railroads (hampered by lots of over-building based on expectations of future growth) finding it impossible to proect their investers as a result. American Transportation in all modes has been hampered by the lack of free markets since 1916, or so. Blaming the ICC is a doppleganger, for the most part.
