I was one of several lucky young enthusiasts who had several cab rides with Andy. My best one was a trip all they way to Scranton. My original intent was to get off in Dover to catch a local back to Highland Ave. but Andy reminded me that No. 1 was probably going to be discontinued soon so I took him up on the offer and stayed for the ride. Fortunately, I had my camera and took some slides. Several of those appeared in John Boehner's second volume on the EL passenger service. Upon arival in Scranton we learned No. 2 was running over two hours late due to a grade crossing collision. Andy arranged for me to call my mom using the company phone to let her and my father know I'd be a wee bit late for dinner. Of course she had no idea I was in Pennsylvania and her reaction to the news was not exactly positive, to say the least. I fully expected a lecture when I walked in the door after 8:00 p.m. but my very understanding folks only asked how the trip was. In line with the above, in John's book one of my photos was of Andy's Fireman that day. I've showed it to several EL vets but nobody has been able to identify him to date. If anyone on the list knows who it is, please contact me.
