The cars have been leased by Metrolink due to a serious surge in passenger traffic on their lines at a time when new cars on order still have a significant time before delivery. Because the Comet 1 cars are not ADA compliant, they are going to be broken up (not used as trainsets).? Instead, a single Comet 1 car will be added to existing Metrolink train sets of Bombardier double decker cars, being placed between the locomotive and the first double decker car.? I don't think the doors will open or close at station stops (which seems crazy to me). By doing this, Metrolink will free up enough of their own stock to make up new trains (their new locomotive order is being delivered as I type this).
