I was on my way back from the shore tonight, and I decided to exit the Garden State Parkway and take a look at the former Erie Lackawanna caboose C 907 in Long Branch, NJ. Some of you may recall this was one of the last repaints EL performed just days before the Conrail takeover. Larry DeYoung photographed it on March 23, 1976

A few years later it was moved to Long Branch, NJ.and attached to the Casey Jones Restaurant near the NY&LB (NJT) rail line, they cut a section of the side of the caboose away so you can walk inside from the building.  :(

This image is from the late 90's...

Attached are some sad images of what I discovered today, the restaurant is now closed, looks like it's been vacant for some time. As you can see they painted the caboose, it retained it's EL paint up to a few years ago, over 30 years since the demise of the railroad... I think this piece of rolling stock was one of the last surviving pieces of equipment to retain an original Erie Lackawanna paint scheme. They did leave one little piece of stripe against the building, I grabbed a photo of it. And you can see the Erie trucks are still stenciled EL 907.

Lest not forget this caboose is a Lackawanna Railroad survivor!
