This picture was taken in 1967 after the massive reduction in commuter service with the Northern Branch, Newark Branch, Greenwood Lake Midvale trains eliminated.  That freed up a lot of passenger RS's up for freight service.  Some would be called back to the passenger pool as the state increased their support of commuter trains increasing the frequency of service on the Boonton and Mainline trains.

This brings up another question.  After the major cut in commuter service in October of 1966, how were the passenger Geeps and RS's assigned?  Were they distributed throughout the entire system?
