List---- On May 3rd, I posted a response to equipment leases which reads (in part) as follows: Paul and list----- It's doubtful that we'll ever know what the thought was in the Mechanical Dept. Former CMO Dave Huggins was probably the deciding factor. It's all speculation on my part, but I disagree with you. I think the C-424 and C-425's would have survived the U23B and GP-38 delivery and continued to haul drags and hot metal trains in the Youngstown area, power the hopper trains to North Randall, and be used on heavy locals, such as the Kent Local, the Sand Man and replacing the F's and RS-3's on the Niles and the New Castle Locals - --------------- Since that time, I quizzed Mike Wikman who was a former Road Foreman and later Division Road Foreman and a career engineer-supervisor-consultant. Here is an what Mike said on the subject of the C-424's, C-425's and the pending purchases of U23B and GP-38 locomotives: Steve, I spoke to Dave Huggins about the C424 and 425. The 424's were going to be short lived because of the transition program switch and all the problems that the c424s had. the 425 was a different story. He never did like the GP38 with 16 cyls and 2000 hp. He liked the GE's and I believe the U23b was considered. The SD 45 was Carlsons ideas. Mike SMT **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight?
