SMT... This makes sense to me. Isn't it usually cheaper to keep an older locomotive running (as long as you have a supply of spare parts...not a problem in the mid-70s) than to buy something new? If I had to get rid of anything, I'd start with the units that were pushing 30 years old, not the "teenagers". Of course, without knowing any of the financial details about the "lease" or equipment trust, it would be speculation. Is there a copy of it laying around somewhere?
