Tim -- I'm sure you have checked The DIAMOND<, Vol. 19,#4,p 12 ff, for Joe Welsh's article on Lackawanna sleeper service, which shows a predominance of 6-6 heavyweights. Rebuilt as "betterment" cars named in the "Poplar" series, the 6-6s came in two styles. Plan 4084 - 4084C (58 cars) placed four of the bedrooms at the end of the which had the vestibule and two at the other, with the sections in the middle. Plan 4060 (32 cars) gathered all six bedrooms from the middle of the car to the non-vestibule end. These differences resulted in quite different window arrangements. Some roads owning 4084s after the breakup were SP, SAL, and ACL, as well as Pullman. They could have been two-tone gray (either dark body, light window panel or the reverse), yellow, purple, silver (with or without shadow-lining) or green. Yes, normally they would have been a consistent color -- but normal can be sooo dull! If these details are more than you need, the paint won't matter. Produce or procure what pleases you, and run it. Fun does matter. Randy Brown - -------------------------------------------------------------- I am looking to see if anyone has any photos of a "Poplar" series Pullman on the DL&W. These cars were used in Hoboken - Detroit service via the Michigan Central (NYC). I am wondering if they were strictly Pullman green or if they were painted in New York Central two-tone grey as some other Pullmans assigned to the NYC were.
