All EL 40' boxcars were inherited from the Erie and DL&W. By 1960, I'm not
even sure if they were building 40' cars new!

So, the double-door 40-footers that I thought were "new" to the EL in
1960-61 and eventually (or quickly) went to the GN were inherited from which
railroad? I thought they had been Erie ordered, but maybe not.

And modeled and painted in HO by Bev Bel a number of years ago. Or so I
recall. I use these as converter cars (KD couplers-horn hook) as I can see them
easily. Although I might start equipping some EL Cool-Whip cars as well. For
1950s-60s passengers, I use an Athearn "express-baggage" labeled Erie, and a
"Route of Phoebe Snow" for earlier era.

There were a few buyers of the 40' "high-cube" cars for appliance

At least one other was UP. One of these newly painted showed up on an EL
drop-off in the Passaic Jct yard in August 1968 in (then) new UP yellow and
decals, headed somewhere east, I thought. I would have to go and dig out the
photo (in B&W). But it was delivered by EL and left via NYSW.
