The 40' general service boxcar was obsolete in the US by 1960. Production may have continued into the 1960's in Canada, however. The last US-built "40-footer" to my knowledge was the "mini hy-cube", produced by Pullman-Standard in 1967. This had an IL of 40'6" and hydraulic cushioning for hauling appliances. CB&Q bought some and may have been the sole buyer. Paul B All EL 40' boxcars were inherited from the Erie and DL&W. By 1960, I'm not even sure if they were building 40' cars new! - - Paul The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List http://EL-List.railfan.net/ To Unsubscribe: http://Lists.Railfan.net/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
