Gary and list,
Sorry, but the shot with the MU is looking west. The MU to the right of
track 1 (westbound main) is on the M&E lead and it was sitting there as they
were operating all trains on the westbound track while they dropped the
rail. That MU was laying over after making the Morristown station stop in
preparation for returning to Hoboken running against traffic. Not sure
where they were crossed back over to the eastbound main.

Paul, I think you're turned around. This view looks east, and the
track on the right is the Morristown Yard lead.
The MU is parked on the Morristown yard lead. Way back in 1969, EL
ran half-hourly from Hoboken off-peak. All trains ran to Morristown,
but only half of them went all the way to Dover. The others turned
at Morristown, using the yard lead. Several morning peak trains
began their runs at Morristown and evening trains terminated there,
stored overnight in the yard, which had four tracks. There also was
an era when the mid-day trains ran to Denville, changing directions
by crossing over at the switches west of the station. Morristown
turn trains were assigned numbers in the 550 series, while Denville
turns were 560's.
The Morristown yard was updated in 1983 with the reelectrification,
but the first schedule for 25KV electric service did away with
Morristown turns; all trains ran to Dover. A few Arrow cars may have
gone into the Morristown yard, but they wasn't scheduled to do so and
I doubt that it happened.
