Paul and List,
On some railroads, the order of cars in the train consist
starts with the car next to the caboose. Not sure what the
practice was on the DL&W.
This practice can sometimes lead to a misunderstanding
between railroads resulting in run-through trains being
blocked in the reverse order for delivery to the other road.
I know of one case where this sort of mix-up occurred for
over one year before somebody woke up.
