I consider these the best railroad history ever printed. There is another book I keep right next to this set, almost a second volume of the DL&W in the19th Century. This is: "Green Bay & Western" by Stan Mailer, published 1989. Yes - DL&W history in a GB&W book! Taber does not go into the DL&W purchase and control of RR in Wisconsin and Michigan, nor does he cover the DL&W's Great Lakes fleet. This book touches on these topics as no other does. It is the "unknown" history of the DL&W. =========== Great call, Ron. I saw this book when published and was amazed at what I was reading, about the DL&W / GB&W relationship and the grander schemes of the two. Besides that, it's a superlative example of railroad history writing. Mailer wrote to me liking the review in R&R and offered to sign a copy of the book, and I was too busy then to take him up on it. Big regret. Great reading. Mike Del Vecchio **************Start the year off right.
