Allied Full Cushion trucks were introduced in the late 1930's. They had the objective of providing a better ride at high speed, but were manufactured for only a few years because of tracking problems. Due to a history of derailments they were banned from interchange service in 1955. Note, they could be used on equipment that didn't go off line which is why Erie Troop Sleepers picked up for MOW service kept them. (Reference Railway Prototype Cyclopedia 4) Brian J Carlson P.E. This was a freight-sized truck meant for high-speed service, as in passenger trains. I've never heard that it was a smooth rider. Eventually, weaknesses or wear developed, and the ICC banned them from interchange; most were replaced by newer designs that looked like Bettendorf sideframes with various and varied systems of snubbers and shock absorbers. However, the Allieds are too fascinating to ignore, so run 'em and enjoy'em.> > Randy Brown > > Symington Gould (crysler) comes to mind but question is when? were they changed but for models theres no Model RR FRA lol > --------------------------------------------------------------> I haven't been following all of the dialogue on the express cars so I don't know if this was addressed: These cars have very unusual trucks.> > Ed Montgomery> > > The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List> Sponsored by the ELH&TS> http://www.elhts.org> To Unsubscribe: http://lists.elhts.org/erielackunsub.html > _________________________________________________________________ > Put your friends on the big screen with Windows Vista® + Windows LiveT. > http://www.microsoft.com/windows/shop/specialoffers.mspx?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_CPC_MediaCtr_bigscreen_102007 > > The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List > Sponsored by the ELH&TS > http://www.elhts.org > To Unsubscribe: http://lists.elhts.org/erielackunsub.html > The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org To Unsubscribe: http://lists.elhts.org/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
