Re: (erielack) Derailment at Steamtown

Bill,

Good catch. My comments as follows.

The switch by Bridge 60 Tower was "run" causing a derailment and extensive damage to Lackawanna 550. Just from looking at the photo, the train proceeded west over a switch improperly lined, stopping with the east truck of the CNJ coach just west of the points - then made a reverse move. The CNJ coach proceeded the way it was lined - pulling 550 with it and derailing same. The west truck is in the dirt and it looks like the bottom equalizer on the east truck is damaged. Drawbars and draft gear are most likely damaged as well. Stuff happens but most importantly no one sustained a serious or fatal injury.

Put a call out for the Car Knockers.

Looks like one of the switches in front of the Bridge 60 tower was not lined
correctly, and one of the coaches decided to take the other set of tracks;
results, one coach on the ballast, upright; no injuries.

More later!
