Al and listers, The tickets and ticketing is from my collection, and with the assistance of a local printer here in Cheyenne, we were able to get it done. To keep costs down, Karen and I were hand cutting and pasting the EL ticket envelopes. I am not into Arts and Crafts, but . . . I look forward to the day sometime in the future when ELDCPS can accurately duplicate from "A to Z" the Erie Lackawanna through-line train experience. For all of you on the list that rode the through-line service on EL, you will recall that ticketing passengers in stations and on trains was a complicated procedure. This was done so that the passenger was issued proper transportation for the space purchased, and that EL (and Pullman) was paid the correct fare. Train crews and station personnel were trained on how to issue the correct ticket forms and report the revenue collected to Cleveland. Both Erie and Lackawanna issued instructions in booklet form so that specific procedures were followed. For ELDCPS, the challenge is not just the restoration and operation of the equipment, but most importantly, how accurately and authentically the EL, Erie or DL&W theme is presented. Operating, Dining Car and Pullman personnel on the train must be correctly uniformed for the time period and Division operated on (safely and accurately performing the duties of the craft portrayed). This goes along with the reproduction of the through-line ticket forms - and correct handling of same by train crews as outlined by Erie and DL&W instructions. Crews did not stand outside the trains at Chicago and Hoboken and collect tickets (which would have been a fiasco and delay departure - plus specific instructions for "seat checking" through-line passengers), they "lifted" transportation on trains according to procedures issued by Cleveland (Erie) and Scranton (DL&W). Ticket lifts for passengers traveling Pullman were different then for people traveling coach. Pullman Company procedures in Pullmans were a holdover from Pullman. Everyone from Pullman Porters to the operating train crew were governed by different instructions relevant to the work which they were assigned to perform. For those of you who recall riding through-line trains on EL, I am sure you will let us know if we do not get it right! What was even greater was opening the envelope to find a reproduction EL ticket holder and ticket for the trip. That's a real class act. Bravo ELDCPS. I'm proud to be a member.
