Here's a brief summary of the wreck. On the evening of Sept 10 or 12 (I've seen both dates referenced), the EL-CNJ runthrough ES-99 encountered undermined roadbed at Point-of-Gap curve. Lead unit CNJ SD40 3068 remained upright, fortunately, but trailing units CNJ SD40 3069 and EL SDP45 3637 rolled over and caught fire. Photos show at least 8 derailed cars including 2 TOFC flats (with 4 trailers) off the CNJ ramp at Somerville, 3 tank cars, 2 boxcars and a CH. I don't recall seeing autoracks on SE-98/ES-99; I don't believe CNJ had auto-unloading facilities. The wrecked units were taken to Scranton. I don't know the disposition of the 3069, but the 3637 was supposedly still owned by N&W, having been purchased during Dereco years. It was shipped to Roanoke, where it was rebuilt to a road slug, N&W 9950. Norm, are you referring to the wreck at Shohola in the early-mid 60's?
