Gov. Meyner signed the first subsidy bill in June 1960. It provided cash as follows: PRR $1,698,000 CNJ $1,392,000 DL&W $1,656,000 Erie $582,000 NJ&NY &78,000 LV $30,000 NYS&W $58,800 PRSL $437,000 RDG $9,600 The actual amounts varied a bit when it came to actually signing the contracts. The LV refused its subsidy and discontinued its service. Subsidies were adminsitered by the NJ State Highway Department -- so when there would be discontinuance hearings and the like, the name "Dwight L. Palmer" would be included on the notices as the Highway folk had to be involved.
