The question was when did NJ subsidize the *EL* commuter operation - Jersey Arrow MU cars were for the Penn Central, not EL.
The State did start kicking in money towards the operation in the late 60's, and eventually when the EL said they wanted to replace their old tired equipment with new cars/locomotives, the State stepped up in a big way with the P-S commuter car and U34CH purchases.
