State of NJ began subsidizing EL commuter operations in 1967 after William White threatened to shut it down. U34CH's and new commuter cars were ordered in 1970 and the first ones were placed in service in early 1971. Paul B Can anyone provide dates for the following events? 1.. State of New Jersey began subsidizing the EL commuter operation in NJ 2.. State of New Jersey took over the physical operation (i.e., not just subsidizing it) of ex-EL commuter operations, which by then I recall were being operated by Conrail Thanks for any help with this.
