Funny you should mention that - Hoboken Shore started off as an electric line. Look at my site (http://hbs.railfan.net) for more "tight curve" shots. >No wonder HSRR used a 44-tonner, you > couldn't get anything bigger through there. They actually had boxcab diesels in their very early years that were a bit bigger than the 44-tonners. 53' gons made it around their turns, but that's about as long as they could feasibly go. > Neat > juxtaposition of brand new CTI container and ancient New Hope > & Ivyland boxcar. That string of HBS (and those are the AAR reporting marks the railroad used, for the record) boxcars appear to just have been painted and haven't had their capacity/reporting mark details added yet. I have photos in my collection of these in revenue service. The color wasn't black, it was a VERY dark blue. The square Hoboken Shore logo was actually a Scotchlite decal. Note the NHIR and NYSW boxcar shots - from the research I did on my NYS&W book, it appears that all these cars (HBS, NYSW, NHIR) were ancient cars that were given "quicky" overhauls to get them on the road and earn some revenue with what was left in their revenue service lives by a company named "Bonanno Park." These cars only lasted 3-4 years before they were retired. This was all part of the 1970s fad of "shortline leased cars." And yes, Hoboken Shore (and NYS&W for that matter) did get some 50' round-roof (and even 40' round-roof cars), with the 50' cars actually of NP heritage rather than PRR. > Sadly, I recall someone saying it's all gone now. Other than some embedded rail in some roads, yes, all gone. :( - Paul The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org To Unsubscribe: http://lists.elhts.org/erielackunsub.html ------------------------------
