Your welcome Ken,
Best place to railfan in Newburgh is north of The City near CP55. No where directly in city that is safe to railfan. Stay away from Yard area by the station that never reopened as a restaurant as proposed for past 20 years. Up the street is Hotel Newburgh which is used by homeless as a shelter. Cornwall is a much nicer area to railfan

One last question. Where can you railfan in Newburgh? Are there some areas to avoid?

Ken,
The newer branch from Chester was abandoned in the late 80's or early 90's by CR. Seems as the West Shore was handing local traffic formerly handled by the Newburgh Branch. Not sure when original Newburgh Branch was removed. As a kid I never remember seeing any track past Mountainville.
The old line via Mountainville is heavily overgrown north of there so there is not much to walk. The line crossed the O&W in Cornwall via bridge. Abutments remains. As I recall it was near a fuel distributor,
Thanks for the info. When were the branches removed? Are the railbeds still in tact anwhere along the lines? I'm thinking of exploring up there if there's anything to look at other than the station.
Jerome
