Rick & others....
I've followed the discussions about the EL using the NYC line to
Phalanx, & tried to remember how we worked the job from Cleveland to Kent &
back. I seldom caught it since it was a overnite roundtrip. I usually stood
for 192/177 to Meadville which had a layover there. I'd been furloughed out
of Brier Hill and was on the Xtra board at 55th Street in Cleveland. As I
remember, we went into Leavittsburg yard, ran around the train and headed
west with the old RS-3s on the other end. Coming back was the same move but
I was so tired by this time that the train could have gone to Hoboken for
all I knew. This was 1960 or so and I don't ever remember going onto the NYC
to return. Sorry I can't contribute more here. Oh, yes.......occasionally
there'd be hot cars for the May Company in Cleveland and the returning 177
would be put over the cutoff instead of weevilling thru Sharon, Youngstown,
Niles and Warren.
Regards,
Walt Smith
