ERIE Drawing 61-H-8 instructs the painting of PA-22 862 - 863, and PA-20 850-861 in what we call the TTG or GGY scheme. As issued on Oct. 31, 1957, it specified these DuPont codes: Green -- Duco 254-35426 Gray-Green -- Duco 254-9107 Yellow -- DuLux 95-014 Black -- DuLux 88-762 Revision B (7-26-60) removed the paint code numbers. Those were the codes, straight from the (iron) horse's mouth. However, what we see when we look at the chips, cans, or painted surfaces is purely subjective and difficult to evaluate. The reactions in our individual brains to the signals sent by our own five senses, alone or in combination, are our reactions -- ours alone. What I see may differ from what you see. I may see different differences than you see. Moreover, what I remember may well differ from what you remember. After all, it's been nearly fifty years and many of us never saw the real thing. Finally, we all know how the camera -- or, more accurately, the film -- CAN lie. Photographs taken in the late '50s and early '60s will vary widely in their rendition of colors, depending on the films and the ambient lighting. Therefore, if I were ever to need that color again (doubtful), I would have to settle for someone else's decision or mix my own. Personally, I don't find it all that difficult to mix paint when I have to. I'll accept recommendations as to manufacturer. Who would those on the list interested in this color prefer? As for paint colors and the builders. EMD used stock DuPont colors unless a customer specified a custom color. The Erie greens were custom colors, but DuPont can usually cross reference the old numbers into the new pigments. Many museums have been through that process. And even URHS's Erie E8s looked pretty close. Jimmy Wilson will be going through the excersize shortly on the 833. And while we're at it, Schuyler, this Italian is curious what inspired your new signature?
