The Diamond was used by the ERIE since the late 19th century, so that part had been around for a
very long time.  I'm sure you know that there was an early style, with Roman letters, rather short,
for the word ERIE.  Around 1940 (I never get this date right) this was converted to a more upright,
gothic style.  Much of the equipment was repainted VERY quickly.

Integrating that into the F-unit locomotive would have been done by EMD's stylists.  They actually
patented a number of the decoration schemes they applied to various customer's locomotives.
