I'm sure you know that there was an early style, with Roman letters, rather short, for the word ERIE. Around 1940 (I never get this date right) this was converted to a more upright, gothic style. Much of the equipment was repainted VERY quickly. Integrating that into the F-unit locomotive would have been done by EMD's stylists.
