Last week I pulled into the alley off of fifth street and with the overgrowth all I could see was the front loader but bot the station and thought the worst. As I got closer I noticed the foundation had been dug around and holes in the basement wall, apparently preparing the 117 year old building to be moved.
I finally made it back out to Barberton to see what was going on with the Barberton Erie Railroad station.
Today they have the structure raised and supported on large beams. The workers told me the station was being raised seven feet and moved across the street, although they didn't know why or what it was going to be used for. As you can see from the photos it is a very well kept structure, and it's a shame it's not been empty the past 20 years or so, since the model train/bike shop moved out.
When built 20 people worked in there. Railroading sure has changed... :(
I do not see any place across the street that's been prepped for it's placement. I'll stay on the case.
