Re:(erielack) EL 741 Today

Tim -- is that sixth window -- the one with the big "E" -- going to be framed out as a window?

Yesterday, several of the directors and officers of ELDCPS were at Midwest Locomotive in Kansas City. We were there to look at the progress on EL diner 741. After a lot of work and a lot of money, the exterior and structural restoration is just about complete. Midwest will do a few small repairs around the belt rail to prevent any minor leaks and then the car will be ready for painting. The goal right now is to have 741 painted and lettered for the Erie Lackawanna by the end of the summer.

I have attached a picture of the car viewed from the aisleway side. Working from left to right you can see the rebuilt collision posts, the side sheet metal replacement, and the new service doorway put in where the cut-in vestibule had been. This is also a good view of the rebuilt roof, the various vents on top, and the unique "turtleback" humps at each end. The people you see are Jole and Lynne Long and John and Karen Boehner.

We also viewed DL&W diner 470 and John Boehner's two personal cars, EL coach 1318 and his 6-6-4 sleeper.

By my calculation we have spent over $150,000 so far on 741 to bring it back to the way it was just after the EL merger. As always, your continued financial support is welcomed:
