Re: (erielack) May calendar photo



I came to the Endicott area in 1953 and don't think there were any passenger 
trains that stopped at Appalchin even then. Mystery as to why the DL&W built 
that nice brick station there while retaining the old wood one at Vestal, 
which always had quite a bit of passenger traffic from Endicott, right 
across the river with a bridge right at the station.

There was a large lumber and millwork palnt at Appalachin but I can't even 
recall a siding by the station. other than that no industrya t Appalachin. 
Goog shot of orginal wood station in Taber. Campville, across the river, was 
abig stock laoding point on the Erie way back. Cattle, etc. were driven to 
Appalachin and then ferried across the susquehanna to the Campville 
stockyards....before DL&W was built through.
