Re: (erielack) Cut Lever on prototype cars

Mike,

Again, I would look at photos of prototype cars to duplicate the type you want. There is a wide variety in use, especially of the sliding or telescoping type used on cars with end-of-car cushioning. DA makes two kinds; the 6215 "standard type" sounds like it would work on many cars, although I can't find a photo of this (I think I'll order a pack to see what they look like). The 6240 "modern type" is essentially a straight bar with a right-angle bend for the handle; it appears to be relatively uncommon on the prototype. I don't know of any other types available commercially. It would be nice if someone would produce a couple examples of cushion coupler lift bars. I've bent some of my own from wire, with the coupler end passing through an eyelet attached to the underside of a KD #26 so it slides through as the coupler swings. Looks pretty cool.

Help Is there any guideline of what type of cut levers go on what cars?
I realize it was probably a railroad requested this or that type on a
order by order system. Are there names for each type or does it depend
on the manufacture.
Thanks
