(erielack) Erie solarium cars

Returning to a thread from a few weeks ago, I found more information on
these cars in The Official Pullman-Standard Library - Selected Heavyweight
Cars (RFC publications Inc, 1995). I quote:

"8 Section, Restaurant Lounge SPRING BROOK CLUB was one of 3 cars rebuilt in
1932 for Pullman Service on the ERIE Railroad. Spring Brook Club was
originally built in lot 4484, plan 2412-A, a 16 Section Sleeping car named
PLACER; one of 6 cars built for Pullman Company assignment of the SP in
1917. It was sold to the Southern in 1948 and rebuilt to Coach 1036. The
Navajo carpet pattern contrasts with the Neo-Classical wall treatment. Even
though, this is a modern interior for 1932 (p. 95)." [4 photos: 1 exterior,
3 interior including one of the rear sitting area with rear-windowed door
and large side picture windows]

"8 Section, 1 Compartment, Restaurant Lounge PEPPER PIKE COUNTRY CLUB was
one of 2 cars rebuilt in 1933 for Pullman Service on the ERIE Railroad. This
car was originally built in lot 4484, plan 2412-F; a 16 Section Sleeping car
named MONDOVI; one of 4 cars built in 1917 for the Pullman Company
assignment on the C&NW. This car was sold to the Southern in 1948 and
scrapped in 1953. The ERIE specified the same interior on this car as well
as Spring Brook Club (p. 99)." [4 photos: 1 exterior, 3 interior]

The fact that these were custom rebuilds would seem to explain the absence
of the side, rear solarium windows reaching into the letterboard area,
windows the likes of which we see on the Walthers solarium cars that Tony
Horn inquired about. Putting in a rear door window that practically ran the
whole height of the door and cutting large windows in each rear panel really
gave a wonderful sense of openness in that rear sitting area in Spring Brook
Club (Photo 185, p. 96).

Perhaps a kitbash would be possible combining an appropriate heavyweight
Pullman with the rear end of the Walthers car, which end really looks like
the one on Spring Brook Club pictured in the Dirkes & Krause book (Carstens,
1986). It sounds like these Erie cars were rather unique rebuilds, so I
don't think the accurate combination of side and ends is going to appear in
any model.

There was no information in the RFC book about any DL&W solarium cars.
