Re:Port Morris closing.
I was up in the yard on the day of its "official" closing. This was in late
Aug or early Sep '63, and of course I can't remember which month it was. I had
just started a new (recruiting) assignment in Nashville TN, and we decided
to go home (Netcong and Stanhope) for a visit as we knew time would be at a
premium thereafter.

I asked one of the official looking guys , who said this was the day. It was
one of those hot, steamy summer days. There was an L&H train there
working--must have been one of the rare ones by that time. I took a few pictures.
The next summer ('64) I went up and the whole thing, save the two long
tracks and the wye had been torn out, though the ties were still there and the
weeds hadn't taken over The track arrangement stayed pretty much in that
configuration through early Conrail. By that time I was working for CR and we did a
pretty good job of rationalizing the plant over the next few years (people
from certain railroad fan groups don't like to hear that term!!).
