I know that when I worked UN in 76'/77' we had drills working Port Morris yard. UN controlled switches in that yard. One day, I felt like a hero because the drill didn't have a radio, and so couldn't tell me which way to line the switches for him. But by watching him from the tower, I could figure which way to line him. We still had light engine move from Hoboken to Scranton shops over the cutoff in those early Conrail days.
