Well, how long before enough of the board is replaced?  (when are their terms up?)

Unfortunately this analogy doesn't work when it comes to the archives 
and muddies the issues relevant to their preservation and future access.
   
  Maybe that wasn't the best analogy. But nobody has addressed the real topic. I still haven't heard any good reason to just hand everything over. 
   
  There was a saying around the halls of the Pentagon at Defense Budget time that "Nobody ever gets the whole loaf of bread". ELHS may not be able to preserve the archives as a working collection and keep its stated criteria for selection of a repository whole.
   
  Exactly, that is why I feel that if it isn't broke (society ownership) don't fix it.
   
  That's not correct.  I'm sure that the issue of electronic access (digitizing) of EL documents has been raised here before...and if it wasn't, it should have been.  
   
  Agreed. And we heard about the huge amount of time and expense and work that goes into that. Can an outside organization guarantee they will do all of that, to our spec, for us? Is this something we can take up ourselves? Is there a better way of making requested information available to other members, through the internet, snail mail, fax?
   
  Scranton sounds like the logical place for the collection for all the reasons stated. 
   
  There are several locations on the EL that a person could give a dozen good reasons for. And we can beat our chests from now until doomsday and it won't mean anything except we know how to argue. Because they're all right or wrong, depending on where you sit.
   
  The real question should be, how can we make the archives available to more people, no matter where they are archived? If that's done, location doesn't matter.
