Re: (erielack) archives restrictions

henry,

Do u work at the train museum in Lancaster (Strasburg). I was down there
last year (Nov. 05).
They had a new exhibit of a cab instruction simulator.........only thing was
the automatic brake handle was jammed. I finally got it to release by
putting my feet on the edge of the cab and pulling back with all my might.
Good thing this never happened to me on the road.
I've got a question for u..........4 or 5 years ago, I was at the museum
and they had what appeared to be an oil painting on an easel near the
entrance. It showed the Black Diamond running on a 4-track main with a
back-cab engine. I have the identical thing in an ornate frame (just like
the one at the museum). I knew the NYC did a series of calendar paintings as
did the PRR BUT I didn't think the little old LVRR did this. Other thing is
- - is this a painting or a lithograph or what? My mother's family all worked
for the LV at Coxton and in the 1970s I was up home and my dad said "You
ought to go and ask ur uncle Clarence about buying that old train picture".
When I bought it, my uncle told me it'd been in his attic in West Pittston
for years (his dad had been an LV engineer. I loaned it to the town bank
which displayed it in the lobby with a request for information but nobody
(living) knew anything about it. A 'Foamer' told me they're "All Over the
place", but the one at the museum is the only other I've seen. I also heard
a story that if you bought lots of bonds in WW1, the Company gave you one of
these. Pretty nice for buying bonds...very ornate frame and small metal
plaque at the bottom saying THE BLACK DIAMOND/ LEHIGH VALLEY RAILROAD. Any
info will be appreciated or perhaps u can point me in the right direction to
ask.

Regards,

Walter E. Smith
