Jerome and List, In 1996, MK Rail (Morrison Knudsen) used the frame of ex-EL GP9 1261 to build one of their MK1500D models, which became Port Terminal Railroad Association of Houston #9622. MK Rail built 24 such units for the PTRA that year and three other ex-Erie/EL GP7s provided frames. #1223 became PTRA 9601, #1206 became PTRA 9606 and #1224 became 9607. This info comes from the 1996 MK Rail recap in the May/June 1997 Diesel Era. It includes some photos of this type of unit and no one would ever confuse it with a geep.
